For the second year in a row, Bar Harbor native Evan Graves was the first Maine finisher at the Boston Marathon, posting a sub-2:30 effort on a day when most runners were slowed considerably by rain, cold and wind. Graves, 25, completed the distance in 2 hours, 28 minutes, 4 seconds for 41st place overall -- more than two minutes faster than his Boston debut a year ago and just 37 seconds off his PR set last fall at the Twin Cities Marathon in Minnesota.
Byrne Decker, 40, of Yarmouth placed seventh in the masters division with a time of 2:35:35, second-best among the Maine entrants. With Olympic trials qualifier Emily LeVan sidelined by an injury, the top Maine female was Falmouth's Sheri Piers, 35. Piers was 101st in the women's division with a time of 3:09:00.
