Physical Therapy 8K -- Brunswick
Brunswick, Maine -- October 18, 2009, 9 a.m.
Curtis Wheeler, 23, of Buxton set a course record, and Gabrielle Cyr, 23, of Buxton won the women's division at the 20th annual Physical Therapy 8K.
Wheeler became the first runner to break 25 minutes on the current course, finishing in 24 minutes, 47 seconds. His time was 16 seconds off the event record set by Stan Bickford in 1994, and nearly two minutes faster than runner-up Andrew Van Hoogenstyn, 25, of Cape Elizabeth (26:41).
Cyr posted a time of 30:50 to finish more than a minute ahead of five-time PT8K champion Marjorie Haney, 42, of Portland (31:57).
The Maine Track Club won the team competition, with Floyd Lavery, Michael Griffin, Amy Lilley, John Totman and Tony Myatt as the five scoring runners.
